Facebook is changing ... here's what you need to know

Here we go again! Don't worry, let's break it down ...

If it feels like Facebook changes the rules every five minutes, you’re not imagining it!

Just as we finally find our rhythm, Meta throws in another update! And this one could affect how often you can share links on your Page.

So let’s talk about it, without the jargon, panic or waffle ...

Meta is currently testing a new rule where business Pages and professional accounts are limited to just two link posts per month unless they pay for Meta Verified (prices start from £11.99 per month)

That’s two posts where you can include a clickable link to your website, blog, offer or product.

Now before anyone panics, this is still a test, and not all accounts are affected (yet).

But it’s important because if Meta sees this works for them it’s very likely to roll out more widely.

And let’s be honest … You're probably thinking what I'm thinking!!

Why Is Meta Doing This?

In short ... Subscriptions.

Meta Verified is a paid service that gives you a blue tick, added account protection, access to support and now, no limits on link posting.

Meta says it’s about reducing spam and improving content quality ...

What Does This Mean for Businesses (In Real Terms)?

If you rely on Facebook to drive traffic to your website, your shop, your booking page or your latest offer, this change matters.

It means how you use it needs to evolve, again!

One very simple but important workaround that every business should be doing right now is this ...

Make sure your website or latest offer is linked in your Facebook bio.

Your bio link isn’t affected by these limits and it’s one of the easiest ways to keep driving traffic without relying on constant link posts. You can then reference it in your captions with a simple “link in bio”.

It’s basic, but it works and surprisingly many businesses still don’t do it.

Should You Pay for Meta Verified?

This is the question everyone’s asking and the honest answer is: it depends on your business.

If you regularly share blogs, products, offers or campaigns, Meta Verified might make sense.

It removes link limits, adds extra protection and gives you access to real support (which, if you’ve ever dealt with Meta issues, is no small thing!)

There’s also growing chatter in the industry that verified accounts may get some level of algorithm prioritisation.

Meta hasn’t officially shouted about this from the rooftops, but many marketers are already reporting

  • Slightly better reach

  • Faster engagement

  • More trust from users when they see the blue tick

So is it a guaranteed magic boost? No
Could it help? Quite possibly

For some businesses, it’ll be worth every penny. For others, especially those not posting lots of links, it might be something to revisit later.

Personally, I think this will become another marker of how established and professional a business appears, much like having a branded email address or a website. These things might seem small but they can shape perception, and perception plays a huge role in whether someone chooses to enquire, buy or scroll past!

How to Work Around the Changes Without Paying (For Now)

If Meta Verified isn’t on your radar just yet, you’re not stuck.

Facebook is still heavily pushing social content. Posts that spark conversation, share value or tell a story are still being rewarded far more than straight “click this link” posts.

You can also:

  • Reference your link in the comments

  • Drive people to your bio

  • Use Facebook as a brand-building platform, not just a traffic machine - which is what I urge all small businesses to do!

In many ways, this change is forcing businesses to do what actually works best on social media, being social!!

Feeling Overwhelmed? You’re Not Alone

Keeping up with social media changes is exhausting!

Algorithms shift. Features disappear. What worked six months ago suddenly doesn’t. And most business owners don’t have the time (or patience) to keep up with it all!

If you’re thinking “I just want my social media to work without having to think about it constantly!" then maybe it’s time we worked together!

You focus on running your business, I deal with the ever changing world of social media and take the headache off your plate!

To summarise

Facebook is changing and businesses that adapt early always come out on top!

Make sure your bio link is working hard for you, rethink how you share content and don’t feel pressured to pay for Meta Verified unless it genuinely makes sense for your goals.

And if you’d rather not keep chasing updates, trends and algorithm changes, I’ve got you covered!

Because social media should support your business, not stress you out.
